Methods of blog commenting
Technically, there are only two methods of blog commenting: white hat blog commenting and blog comment spamming. Everything else is just the combination of these two methods in different proportions.
White hat blog commenting takes lots of time and efforts but it’s very effective in the long run, as with every useful and well-thought comment you attract more and more attention to your persona and your resource from your niche audience and webmasters and bloggers within your niche. That’s what we call branding, which leads to more targeted traffic and links from trusted resources in the long run.
Blog comment spamming takes very little time and efforts and you can leave some 30-50 spam comments in an hour manually, but these comments are very seldom accepted by respectful bloggers who care about their blogs (those who have authority in a niche usually do), and even if they are accepted they can ruin your reputation. That’s why if you decide to leave some comments like “Thanks for this interesting article”, you should be very cautious and know what you’re doing.
To get the maximum effect from blog commenting you should use both methods. Here’s what you should do.
Let’s assume that your niche is "sewing machines". It’s not “make money online”, “weight loss” or “forex”, that’s why there will be not so much blogs and blog posts regarding this topic.
These are the blogs where you should leave white hat comments only. If you see that a blog is spammed to hell, better leave it without commenting, as you will hardly get any traffic or link juice from that comment but you risk to belabelled a spammer by your audience.
Spend some time to read a post, think about what you can add to that post to make your comment useful and only then leave a comment there. If you know your niche, it will not take more than 10-15 minutes. Remember, these blogs and blog posts are the places that your targeted audience visits and their owners are the peoplewho you want to build good relationships with.
Tip: Do not restrict yourself with your main keyword only. In the example above, search not only for “sewing machines”, but for “sewing”, “singer machines”, “sewing needles” and other related keywords as well. Such keywords are closely related to your main keyword, that’s why they will show you more places which your targeted audience visit.
Niche-related blogs are not the only blogs you should leave comments on. You have to attract not only visitors but search engine robots as well, as you need top rankings, don’t you? And that’s where some blog comment spamming is acceptable. Surely, we do not say: go and spam every blog post you see. No. You should be very careful and not leave meaningless comments where they are not acceptable.
First of all, you should get a huge list of high PR blogs and blog posts. To do this, search for keywords like “dogs”, “loans”, “2009”, “tall”, that is any wordwhich is widely used.
After you get the list, open every post in that list and analyze what’s going on in the comments section there. If you see only well-thought comments or a blog is moderated, you’d better leave a useful comment there or leave that blog immediately. But if you see that comments like “Thanks for the article” are acceptable and blog is not moderated, leave a comment of that kind and go to the next post. This way you will not hurt your reputation and get a link from a trusted resource.
In other words, leave spam-like comments only where such comments are acceptable, and never leave such comments if you suspect that your targeted audience will seethem.
Surely, it’s up to you to decide if you’re going to leave spam-like comments as it’s your site you’re building links for and only you know what you’re going to do with it. If you’re going to build a strong brand you may want to leave only meaningful and useful comments, but if you promote an ordinary affiliate blog, you can go both ways without hurting your resource.
The last thing that should be mentioned here is what you should write in the Name field. For white hat commenting create a persona like “Stacy the Sewer” or “Sewing Stacy” and use it when you leave comments on sites where only “real” names (as opposed to keywords like “sewing machines”) are acceptable.
Look what other commenters do. If you see only names, use your persona name. If you see names and keywords, use a keyword. For spam-like comments use keywords, you want to rank for. There’s no need to use your persona here.
